The ARS President's
Appeal
Dear ARS Members,
This is the time of year when we thank you and
other members for your financial help and ask you
for continued support, so that we can carry on our
work to promote our beloved instrument and its
music.
Did you know that membership dues don’t begin to
cover our operating expenses? Part of the income
from dues helps pay for our magazine, American
Recorder, which is considered our most valuable
benefit by many of our members. Although we are
looking for ways to cut publication costs and
raise advertising revenue, postage and paper costs
continue to go up.
We could decide to cut back on our other services.
What if we eliminated scholarships? No, part of
our mission is to support recorder players who
want to improve their skills and give back to
their musical communities. Could we eliminate the
ARS website? No, it’s our greatest tool for
communicating with recorder players around the
world, and for getting information to people who
would like to learn more about our instrument. Can
you imagine the ARS without a website in this day
and age?
How about the ARS CD Club? For some of the
artists, the CD Club is their only distributor and
therefore the only place you can purchase their
recordings. The ARS also provides music you won’t
find elsewhere, in the Members’ Library, the
Goldstein Editions, and the new works being
composed for our Composition Competition.
All these activities take money. That’s where you
come in. Imagine how your life would be affected
if the ARS didn’t exist. Think of the joy the
recorder brings you. Think about all the people
who will also experience that joy because we help
them discover the recorder. Now reach for your
checkbook! And know that the ARS board and other
ARS members are very grateful for your help.
