Simple Pleasures, Hidden Treasures: Boismortier Trio Sonatas NO IMAGE

Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) lived a life of fame and fortune. He made riches from his compositions and was one of the most popular composers of the 18th century. Extremely prolific, he composed successfully in the style of the time, keeping a shrewd eye on current fashions and trends. With period instruments, L'Ensemble Portique performs some of Boismortier's little-known trios published during his "Paris" years. Written in the trendy Italian style regarding form and flash, they maintain moments of pure charm and grace so characteristic of the French.

The Lost Mode

OUT OF STOCK

The Lost Mode

Medieval music meets living modal music traditions: The Lost Mode features an eclectic set of music from the Middle Ages, as well as melodies from Sephardic, North African, Armenian, Breton, and Basque modal traditions. Our interpretations are meant to extend, complement, and bridge the gap between written sources and oral transmission. New compositions based on medieval models stand next to their century-old counterparts. Some melodies are lifted out of their original context, presented in a different meter, or brought to life on instruments that would not have been known in the music’s original culture. The result: a multi-layered, time- and boundary-crossing collection of tones, timbres, textures, lovingly held together by the common thread of mode.

Vivaldi: The 4 Seasons

TRACK

"If you think you know the Seasons, if you've heard it (or played it) far too often to ever want to hear it again - go straight out and buy this recording. Red Priest's performance on this disc is passionate but criminal, drunken and disorderly, manic and demonic, outrageous yet compulsive.. This stuff is cheaper than cocaine, but there's no way it should be legal."
