Scholarship Criteria:

Applicant’s potential for leadership in chapter/Society activities.  (While ARS membership cannot, according to our legal counsel, be a requirement, it is a positive element, as it indicates interest in and dedication to the recorder.)

Other evidence of applicant’s interest in the recorder and willingness to share that interest with others, based on the personal account and letters of recommendation.

Potential for personal growth as a result of workshop attendance.

Other things being equal, we try to have on the final list age and gender diversity as well as geographical diversity with respect both to residences and workshops attended.

When there are more really strong candidates than our funds can support, we give priority to those applicants who have not received previous ARS scholarships. (I don't think we should worry about this item this year with the boost from the Daniel J. Morris Bequest in Kathy 's opinion).

If you are personally acquainted with an applicant, it is helpful for the rest of the committee to know his/her strengths or weaknesses as you see them, but please be as objective as possible.
