BEMF Beyond Borders Recorder Performance Available For Viewing

BEMF BEYOND BORDERS 2023 offered a free international, hybrid program featuring a live performance by the Boston Early Music Festival Youth Ensemble and short, pre-recorded performances from international partners on four continents: Kenya, Lebanon, The Netherlands and Brazil. Performed at the 2023 Boston Early Music Festival on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at the New England Conservatory Jordan Hall in Boston, MA.
The live event (now available as a free YouTube video), led by ARS Distinguished Achievement Award honoree Nina Stern, included traditional early 19th-century Brazilian music, works by Juan del Encina and Juan Ponce, and a new composition by Melika Fitzhugh commissioned for the BEMF Youth Ensemble. (That tall fellow in the middle is Erik Bosgraaf, who later in the day played a BEMF full-length solo recital.)

The event was co-sponsored by several ARS members: Amanda and Melvyn Pond; Peter L. and Joan S. Faber; and Lorna E. Oleck.

The Virtual Program is dedicated in loving memory of Fernando Brasil (pictured, 2000-2023), a devoted member of the Som Doce da Grota recorder ensemble from the Projecto Espaço Cultural da Grota in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His life was cut short by a motorcycle accident in September.
