Mary Humphrey Hired as Print Layout Specialist

Mary Humphrey was chosen from a broad pool of applicants to join the ARS editorial team. Starting with the Fall issue of American Recorder, Mary will perform all the layout for the magazine, working closely with Managing Editor Geoffrey Burgess.

A native of North Carolina currently living in Raleigh, Mary is a graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Design. She has 30 years of design experience, collaborating with both for-profit and non-profit clients. Her freelance design business pursues long-term relationships with all kinds of clients.

Organizations she has worked with include Duke University and the North Carolina Museum of Art. Mary enjoys working on projects of any scope—from a single business card to a complex communication package—and appreciates the unending opportunities to learn something new from her clients and their varied businesses.

She writes: “I like to be involved in a project from its conception. Considering design questions at the front end makes for rewarding work that is successful for the client and audience. Win!”

Mary stood out from other equally qualified applicants as a collaborative thinker and troubleshooter willing to apply her creative skills to a new challenge.

Many thanks to the other members of the search task force for facilitating this hire: retiring Editor Gail Nickless and Administrative Director Susan Burns.
