ARS Board Holds Fall 2024 Virtual Meeting

On October 6-7, the ARS Board of Directors met virtually for a productive and inspiring weekend meeting.  Productive because the standing committees reported on six months of activity accompanied by fruitful discussion, and inspiring because the Board learned of many generous donors and the happy award recipients of ARS scholarships and grants.  Before meeting for the full weekend, the Board had gathered virtually for a brainstorming session on September 27, where we spent 90 minutes responding to two questions:
  • Which of our efforts have our members responded well to?
  • What more should we do to attract and retain members?
Several new ideas arose, and some will surface in new or expanded programs that the ARS will offer to members and prospective members.

The Board welcomed Gwyn Roberts, recently elected to the Board.  In addition, Barbara Stark was elected after being appointed last year, and members Peter Faber, Virginia Felton, and Eric Haas were re-elected.  After reviewing regular business, committee activities, and finances, the Board considered who might receive the ARS Distinguished Achievement Award.  Their decision will be announced in Winter AR magazine.  Finally, the Board planned for its Spring meeting, which will be held in Atlanta GA, the first in-person Board meeting since the pandemic in 2020.  Many members of the current Board have never met face-to-face and look forward to the energy and congeniality that comes with an in-person gathering next year.
