Online Free Recorder Classes

The American Recorder Society is offering FREE online recorder classes! Each series consists of four sessions offered via Zoom, taught by professional teaching members of the American Recorder Society.

The 4-class series below are taught multiple times throughout the year and alternate between series for soprano/tenor recorder and alto recorder. All classes are approximately 50 minutes - 1 hour in length, including a period for questions and answers.
 

For anyone, whether an ARS member or not

Beginners’ Recorder Class: If you have never played recorder before, are new or still learning to read music, or if it has been eons since you have played, then this 4-class series is for you. Occasionally, we offer a series for bass recorder. 

“Second Wind” Beginners’ Recorder Class: Designed for people with experience on another wind instrument and those who read music already, this class is specific for those who are just transitioning to recorder from another instrument or picking up the 2nd set of recorder fingerings. If you are familiar with playing a wind instrument and can read music, but new to recorders, come find what makes the recorder unique among the world of wind instruments.
 

For ARS members only

Second Level Beginner Recorder Class: This 4-class series is a continuation of the beginners’ class to help you further along on your studies. In addition to advancing further through more advanced beginner-level material, this course may focus on more specific techniques such as breath control, finger control, articulation, etc. Occasionally, we offer a series for bass recorder. 

“Second Wind” Second Level Recorder Class: A continuation of the “Second Wind” beginners’ classes and often taught by the same teacher, this 4-class series is designed for players with experience on another wind instrument and those who read music already. In addition to advancing further through more advanced beginner-level material, this course may focus on more specific techniques such as breath control, finger control, articulation, etc. 

Masterclass (Coming Soon!): Twice a year, the ARS will offer a 1.5-hour masterclass covering topics pertinent to recorder players - topics may include proper care of your wooden instruments, an articulation primer, trill techniques - the sky’s the limit as the professional teacher will choose the topic!
